Periodista y especialista en Literatura Infantil
Licienciada en Ciencias de la Información, especialidad Periodismo por la Universidad de Santiago (curso 1993-1997), En el campo de los medios de comunicación trabajó entre lo 1996 y el 1998 en empresas como La Voz de Galicia, Europa Press y Agencia Gallega de Noticias.
Desde el año 1998 trabaja en el mundo de la Literatura Infantil y Juvenil, ligada a Kalandraka Editora, coordinando el Departamento de Comunicación y de Relaciones con el Exterior (Foreign Rights y Exportación). De enero a octubre de 2004 dirige Kalandraka Portugal, en su delegación de Lisboa.
Desde el año 2005 forma parte de OQO Editora, en el departamento de Comunicación y Proyectos, y dirige el área de Internacional de la misma.
Experiencia de una década asistiendo y participando a eventos internacionales como la Feria del Libro de Bologna (Italia), Frankfurt Book Fair (Alemaña), Book Expo America (new York, USA), Beijing Book Fair (China) Tokyo Book Fair (Japón) y FIL de Guadalajara (México)

In an illustrated album, text and image constitute a double narrative, two articulated languages, united through an independent relationship, mutually complementing and enriching each other. To understand the album, it is necessary to read the images and appreciate the resources they offer and their importance for a visual education for early readers. The album, for many, will be the first museum, the first contact with art: figurative or abstract, that will help to educate the eye and to create in the youngest ones a criteria to evaluate the aesthetic. We see in the critique of the album an exhaustive analysis of the narrated text, but it fails in many cases in the analysis and critique of the images from an artistic point of view. The images are visual elements that allow communication and of which we should learn to interpret the signs and symbols shaping the language. Going from the concept of the text to the visual representation is not only to stage, it is also a change, bringing us closer to another world, rich and complex, with its laws and grammar. Sophie Van de Liden emphasized that illustrating a text is not to translate the text into images but to create a thought, a feeling expressed by the words. In this theoretical – practical workshop we shall expound the case of OQO publisher in the creation of an illustrated album and we shall underline the need to value the resources offered by the images and to learn to read them. For that, we shall take a trip through the history of illustration and the illustrated book, to take a closer look at the birth and definition of the “illustrated album” and defining and exemplifying the characteristics and parts that give shape to it: Title page, back cover, spine, cover, credit page, body… and the functionality of each one. We shall analyse the album as an object and its content, paying special attention to the relationship text/illustration and especially to the distinct functions of the image. We shall define and analyse the distinct functions of the image within the album, of which we shall highlight the following:
1- REAFIRM THE CONTENT OF THE TEXT.
2- PRESENT AND DESCRIBE THE CHARACTERS.
3- CREATE AND RECREATE A DETERMINED ATMOSPHERE.
4- SHOW WHAT THE WORDS DO NOT EXPRESS (FEELINGS, EMOTIONS…).
5- ADVANCING ELEMENTS OF THE NARRATIVE (PROLEPSIS).
6- DECORATE AND EMBELLISH THE TEXT.
7- PUT THE STORY INTO CONTEXT (TIME, SPACE…).
8- ANNOUNCE A CHANGE IN THE NARRATIVE, SUBJECTIVE NARRATION.
9- TELLING PARALLEL STORIES, SECOND READINGS OF THE IMAGES.
10- ENRICHING THE OBSERVER: INTERTEXT AND PARATEXT.
We shall also define and analyse the distinct components of the image and how the distinct visual components can communicate with each other and the reader. We shall take a look at examples of illustrations and analyse, in them, the communicative value of a dot, line, light colour, texture, perspective, movement and composition. We shall also analyse the distinct artistic techniques, material used and the distinct styles present in the illustrations: collage, acrylic, water-colour, sculptures, photographs, mixed techniques… We shall make a special mention of how children perceive the image and we shall treat the importance of the illustration in bringing art closer to children through the work of the Italian illustrator Maurizio A. C. Quarello and direct and indirect references of artists such as Piero della Francesca, Goya, Grosz, Caravaggio, Bruegel and Hopper among others, in their illustrated albums. This workshop will be, initially, three hours; however it could be adapted to the needs of the organization. Material to be used will be a lap-top with video projector, distinct illustrated albums and original illustrations. This workshop will be carried out using illustrated albums by OQO publisher, and the examples to be used form part of 50 works of the aforementioned publisher. dentro de la asignatura LA EDICIÓN DE LIBROS INFANTILES.
